NDC Majority Caucus Demands Annulment of Ayawaso East Primaries Over Vote Buying Allegations
The Ghana Voice 08-02-2026The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s recently concluded parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, citing widespread allegations of vote buying.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus indicated that it had taken note of reports suggesting electoral malpractice during the internal contest in the Greater Accra constituency.
According to the statement, the caucus strongly condemned the alleged incidents, stressing that such conduct undermines the party’s broader objective of promoting integrity and reforming Ghana’s political culture.
Following what it described as extensive deliberations by both the core and extended leadership of the caucus, the group resolved to formally petition the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee to take decisive action. The caucus is demanding the immediate annulment of the Ayawaso East primary election results.
Additionally, the caucus is proposing strict disciplinary measures against individuals found culpable. It recommended that any candidate proven to have engaged in vote buying or other unethical conduct be barred from participating in any re-run of the primaries should the election be cancelled.
The Majority Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding transparency and ethical conduct within the party, noting that maintaining public trust remains critical to the NDC’s political agenda.
The development is expected to intensify internal party discussions as leadership weighs the allegations and considers possible next steps regarding the disputed primary.
