ECOWAS COURTTHROWS OUT TORKORNOO'S CASE AGAINST GHANA!
The Ghana Voice 24-06-2026Ex-Chief Justice's US$10 Million Compensation Bid Crashes as Republic Wins All Seven Claims
Ghana has secured a major legal victory at the ECOWAS Community Court after the Court dismissed all seven claims brought against the Republic by former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The former Chief Justice had accused the Republic of violating her rights and also sought US$10 million in damages. However, the Court ruled that Ghana had not breached any of the rights she claimed under the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
In its judgment, the Court declared:
"In light of the Court's conclusions that Ghana has not violated any of the Applicant's rights under the African Charter as alleged, the Court makes no decision on reparations."
The ruling effectively ends the former Chief Justice's bid for financial compensation from the Ghanaian state.
Reacting to the judgment, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Justice Srem Sai, praised the team of State Attorneys for their commitment and professionalism.
"Thanks, again, to our team of illustrious State Attorneys who put in hours and hours of research to support the Republic's defence," he stated.
The decision marks a significant legal triumph for Ghana, with the Republic successfully defending itself against every claim filed before the regional court.
