“Ghana Never Sleeps! Passport Office, Ports Go 24/7 as New Law Kicks In”
The Ghana Voice 11-09-2025Ghana’s much-debated 24-Hour Economy Policy is officially underway, President John Mahama has announced.
The President told journalists that Cabinet has approved the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, which will regulate and coordinate round-the-clock operations across public and private institutions.
Already, the Passport Office, ports, and some state institutions have begun 24-hour operations. “This is not just a slogan. It is happening,” the President stressed.
He revealed that the initiative is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs, while a Policing Secretariat has been set up to ensure security for late-shift workers.
The government is also amending the Labour Act and the GIPC Act to incentivize businesses that join the program.
District Assemblies will use their Common Fund allocations to establish model night markets and bus terminals, supporting local economies.
