Tema Police Intercept Over 1,600 Parcels of Suspected Narcotic Drugs

 The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.

The operation, described by police as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities in the region, was mounted after intelligence was received on January 10, 2026, indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters and dated January 13, 2026, surveillance teams were immediately deployed along the route, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, police intercepted two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander and a black Mitsubishi Pajero—suspected to be conveying the illicit substances. The vehicles were being driven by Isaac Odo, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39.

A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of several compressed yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs. The suspects were promptly arrested, and both vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action.

On January 12, 2026, the suspects and the exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Tema, where photographs and detailed inventories were taken. Police said 872 parcels were retrieved from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total to 1,613 parcels.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Samples of the seized substances are expected to be forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while additional searches will be conducted at the suspects’ places of residence. Police have also begun processes to arraign the suspects before court.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities. It also appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts and help keep communities safe.
