President Mahama Commissions Five Envoys, Charges Them to Prioritise Welfare of Ghanaians Abroad
The Ghana Voice 10-02-2026President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned five newly appointed envoys to represent Ghana in key diplomatic postings, urging them to promote Ghana’s interests while safeguarding the welfare of citizens living overseas.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Presidency in Accra, saw the administration of the Oath of Office and the Oath of Allegiance to the envoys, officially authorising them to undertake their diplomatic assignments on behalf of the country.
The newly commissioned envoys include Alhaji Said Saleh Sinare, Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Lieutenant Colonel Al Hajj Umar Sanda Ahmed, Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Mali; Mr. Kofi Attor, Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Cuba; Mr. Emmanuel Opeku, appointed as Ambassador-in-Situ; and Mrs. Regina Appiah-Sam, High Commissioner-designate to the Republic of Malta.
Addressing the envoys after the ceremony, President Mahama emphasised the importance of diplomacy in advancing Ghana’s international relations, economic interests, and global partnerships.
He tasked them to work diligently to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and their respective host countries.
The President further stressed the need for Ghana’s diplomatic missions to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians living abroad.
He noted that embassies and high commissions must serve as safe and welcoming spaces where citizens can seek assistance, guidance, and protection when necessary.
President Mahama also urged the envoys to promote Ghana’s economic and cultural interests by exploring opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange in their respective jurisdictions.
The appointment and commissioning of the envoys form part of government efforts to deepen Ghana’s diplomatic footprint and enhance international cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The newly commissioned envoys are expected to assume their roles in their respective diplomatic missions in the coming weeks, subject to the completion of required diplomatic processes with their host countries.
