Police Recover Stolen Vehicle, Exhibits in Robbery Investigation; Suspect Dies During Arrest Operation
The Ghana Voice 12-02-2026The Ghana Police Service has recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux pick-up and other items following an intelligence-led operation linked to a residential robbery case.
A statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on February 11, 2026, said the robbery occurred on December 4, 2025, when armed assailants attacked a female victim in her room and made away with her Toyota Hilux, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other personal belongings.
According to the Police, sustained investigations and intelligence gathering led officers to identify and locate a key suspect, Clement Kofi Aidoo, who is also known by several aliases including Joseph Abequaye, Yaw, and Paddy.
The CID explained that during an operation to arrest the suspect, he reportedly attempted to attack the officers, leading to an exchange during which he sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Police Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
Police said the operation led to the retrieval of the stolen Toyota Hilux, the victim’s mobile phone, and several documents believed to be connected to the suspect.
Further investigations revealed that the same suspect was allegedly involved in another vehicle theft in November 2025. He is said to have been employed through a recruitment agency to care for a police officer’s sick father but reportedly fled with the officer’s Toyota Camry.
The vehicle was later recovered in the Central Region after it was abandoned during a police pursuit.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime, recovering stolen property, and ensuring individuals involved in violent criminal activities are brought to justice.
The statement was signed by the CID’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo.
