NPP Primaries: Bryan Acheampong to Join Flagbearer Race, Tipped as "Visionary Leader

The Ghana Voice 20-06-2025

The race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next general election is heating up, with strong indications that Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, will contest the party's presidential primaries.

The confirmation of his ambition came from a fellow legislator, Davis Ansah Opoku, the NPP MP for Mpreaso.

In an interview monitored on Channel TV, Mr. Ansah Opoku confidently stated that the former Minister for Food and Agriculture will seek the NPP's nomination as its flagbearer when the party officially opens the process.

Touting his colleague's credentials, Opoku described Acheampong as a uniquely qualified candidate capable of leading both the party and the country.

"Bryan has the ability to marshal resources in terms of the human capital needed to move Ghana forward," Mr. Ansah Opoku remarked during the interview. "He’s got a clearer vision for Ghana."

Bryan Acheampong, a prominent businessman and politician, is a formidable figure within the NPP. He has previously served in key government roles, including as the Minister for Food and Agriculture and as a Minister of State at the Ministry of National Security, giving him experience in both economic and security sectors.

His expected entry into the flagbearer race will introduce a new dynamic to what is already shaping up to be a keenly contested primary. He is expected to face off against other party stalwarts who have either declared or are anticipated to declare their intentions to run.

While Mr. Acheampong has yet to make a formal personal announcement, the public confirmation by a parliamentary colleague is the most definitive sign yet of his presidential ambitions. All eyes are now on the NPP's leadership as the party prepares to outline the timelines and rules for the upcoming primaries.
