NDC Launches Probe Into Alleged Vote Buying in Ayawaso East Primary
The Ghana Voice 07-02-2026The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the launch of a full-scale investigation into alleged incidents of bribery and vote buying during the party’s parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
In a statement issued on Saturday, February 7, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said the attention of its national leadership had been drawn to widespread allegations of inducement involving some aspirants contesting in the primary.
The party strongly condemned the reported acts, describing them as a direct violation of its core principles and the broader reform agenda it is championing.
“The party vehemently condemns these actions in no uncertain terms as they represent an affront to the values and principles of the party and the reset agenda the party is championing,” the statement noted.
According to the NDC, immediate steps have been taken to initiate investigations into the alleged misconduct, with a warning that decisive action will be taken against any candidate found culpable.
The party further signalled its readiness to adopt tougher disciplinary measures in future internal elections if similar incidents arise. These measures, it indicated, could include the cancellation of election results where evidence of vote buying or inducement is established.
The Ayawaso East parliamentary primary has attracted significant public and political attention, as the party seeks to select a candidate ahead of an impending by-election in the constituency. The contest features five aspirants who successfully passed the party’s vetting process.
The NDC leadership emphasised its commitment to maintaining internal democratic integrity and safeguarding the credibility of its candidate selection processes.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to influence not only the Ayawaso East contest but also shape the party’s approach to internal electoral conduct moving forward.
