Inferno on Highway as Fuel Tanker Explodes at Ntoaso,Accra-Nsawam Road
The Ghana Voice 14-02-2026A massive fire outbreak has caused widespread panic and destruction following a fuel tanker explosion at Accra–Nsawam Highway, engulfing vehicles and disrupting traffic on the busy stretch.
Preliminary reports indicate that the tanker caught fire after an explosion at Ntoaso, with flames spreading rapidly and consuming several nearby vehicles. At least five cars and five motorcycles were burnt beyond recognition within minutes, as thick plumes of smoke filled the sky and forced motorists and residents to flee the area.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Ambulance Service, and the National Disaster Management Organisation were quickly deployed to the scene.
The agencies are working to contain the blaze, rescue possible victims, and secure the area to prevent further damage. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as emergency responders struggled to control the fire and stop it from spreading along the highway.
The incident has caused severe traffic congestion along the vital transport route, which links Accra to Nsawam and serves as a key corridor connecting travellers to parts of the Eastern Region and Central Region.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the affected stretch as emergency teams continue their operations.
Authorities are yet to establish the cause of the explosion, and no official casualty figures have been released at the time of filing this report. Emergency responders remain on site, assessing the full extent of damage and ensuring the situation is brought under control.
