GIFEC Moves to Expand Mobile Network Coverage in Jaman South
The Ghana Voice 27-02-2026The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has intensified efforts to bridge the digital divide in the Jaman South Municipality by engaging traditional authorities and key stakeholders on a major mobile network expansion drive targeting underserved communities.
The high-level engagement to be held on Thursday, forms part of government’s broader strategy to deepen rural connectivity and accelerate digital inclusion across Ghana.
The visit underscores a renewed push to extend reliable telecommunication services to communities that have long struggled with weak or non-existent network coverage.
The initiative aligns with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure universal access to communication infrastructure as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation.
Expanding network access, government officials say, is critical to unlocking opportunities in education, healthcare delivery, commerce, and digital governance.
Through the leadership and advocacy of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Siata Watara, six communities in Jaman South have been earmarked for intervention. These include Kwamepim, Asempanaye, Famkwa, Kubease/Kofidomo, Kwamekumakrom, and Nikanikam.
GIFEC management are to hold discussions with Nananom and opinion leaders to outline implementation processes, assess local conditions, and secure community collaboration for smooth project execution.
The stakeholder approach is expected to fast-track site identification, infrastructure deployment, and operational readiness.
Residents and local leaders have welcomed the move, describing it as a long-overdue intervention that will significantly improve communication and open up new economic prospects.
Farmers, traders, students, and health workers are among those expected to benefit from improved connectivity, particularly in accessing digital platforms, emergency services, and mobile financial systems.
Municipal authorities through MCE have expressed appreciation to GIFEC and the central government for prioritizing Jaman South in the ongoing national connectivity expansion programme.
They noted that reliable network infrastructure would not only bridge the digital gap but also position the municipality as an emerging hub for inclusive development in the Bono Region.
As Ghana advances its digital transformation agenda, initiatives such as this reinforce the role of connectivity as a foundational pillar for equitable growth, ensuring that no community, regardless of location, is left behind.
