GIBA President Endorses Albert Kwabena Dwumfour for Re-Election as GJA President WA
The Ghana Voice 27-06-2025The President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, has thrown his full support behind Albert Kwabena Dwumfour's bid for re-election as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
In a strong endorsement issued ahead of the June 30 GJA elections, Sunkwa-Mills praised Dwumfour's leadership and commitment to press freedom, professionalism, and stakeholder engagement, describing him as the ideal candidate for continued leadership.
"I fully support Mr. Albert Dwumfour's re-election as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). His dedication to journalism principles and significant achievements during his tenure make him the ideal candidate for continued leadership", the GIBA President stated.
He noted that under Dwumfour's tenure, there have been notable strides in safeguarding journalists' rights, particularly regarding protections against harassment and the promotion of a free press environment. These efforts, Sunkwa-Mills said, have helped fortify the democratic foundation of the country.
The GIBA President further highlighted Dwumfour's role in fostering collaboration among media stakeholders and strengthening government relations. "Albert has effectively engaged with stakeholders and government officials, fostering open channels for media input and promoting journalists voices in decision-making", he noted.
Dwumfour was also commended for playing a pivotal role in the formation of the Media Coalition an umbrella body of various media organizations working to promote the welfare of journalists and ensure a peaceful electoral atmosphere in Ghana.
"As we face the complexities of our democracy and the role of the media in development, experienced leadership is crucial," Sunkwa-Mills asserted. Albert possesses the vision and collaborative spirit needed to advance our media landscape".
Cecil Sunkwa-Mills concluded his endorsement by expressing strong confidence in Dwumfour"s leadership and calling on GJA members to renew his mandate. "I wholeheartedly endorse his re-election, believing he will continue to champion the principles of journalism and support the growth of our profession in Ghana".
The endorsement adds significant weight to Dwumfour"s campaign as he seeks a second term at the helm of the GJA.
