Fuseini Steps In As NDC Reshuffles Ayawaso East Probe Committee

The Ghana Voice 09-02-2026

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Member of Parliament and ex-Minister, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, to serve on the party’s committee investigating allegations of vote buying during the recently contested Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.

The appointment follows the withdrawal of Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, whose continued membership on the committee was deemed untenable after the Majority Caucus publicly declared its position on the controversy.

The announcement was made by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, in a public statement shared on his official Facebook page.

According to the statement, the party’s decision to replace Hon. Ayariga is aimed at preserving the credibility, neutrality, and independence of the investigative process amid heightened public scrutiny and internal party interest in ensuring fairness.

Hon. Inusah Fuseini, a seasoned legal practitioner and respected figure within the NDC, is expected to bring legal expertise and institutional experience to the committee’s work as it probes allegations that have cast a shadow over the primaries.

The Ayawaso East contest has attracted intense public and political attention following claims of voter inducement and misconduct during the electoral process. The controversy has already triggered parallel investigations by state institutions, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

In his statement, Mr. Kwetey reaffirmed the party’s commitment to protecting the integrity of its internal democratic structures, stressing that the NDC remains determined to uphold transparency and accountability in its electoral processes.

Political observers say the committee’s findings could play a crucial role in shaping public perception of the party’s commitment to internal reforms, particularly at a time when political parties are under growing pressure to address concerns about monetisation and ethical standards in delegate-based elections.

The committee is expected to continue its work in the coming days as the party seeks to bring clarity and closure to the issues arising from the primaries.
