EOCO Seizes Lamborghini from Shatta Wale in U.S. Fraud Probe — Artist Lashes Out Online

The Ghana Voice 06-08-2025

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has seized a luxury Lamborghini Urus SUV belonging to dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, in connection with a high-profile U.S. fraud case involving convicted Ghanaian fraudster, Nana Kwabena Amuah.

The 2019 Lamborghini was confiscated in June 2025 during a joint operation between EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and the Department of Justice. EOCO revealed in a press statement released today that the seizure was part of an international investigation into assets linked to criminal proceeds from Amuah, who is currently serving a 7-year, 2-month sentence in the United States for financial crimes. Amuah has also been ordered to pay $4.7 million in restitution.

According to EOCO, the seizure was executed lawfully at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra, after the vehicle was identified as one of the illicitly acquired assets purchased through Amuah's fraudulent schemes. The agency said the operation was carried out without incident, and the musician voluntarily surrendered the vehicle after pleading with officers not to make the seizure public.

However, despite his private pleas, Shatta Wale later took to social media with a series of angry posts, accusing EOCO Director Raymond Archer of overstepping his mandate and politicizing the operation. In one of his posts, he wrote:

“Raymond Archer EOCO BOSS, ibi you go make NDC go out of power in the next 4 years. Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for!!”

In another post, the outspoken artiste added:

“EOCO BOSS THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA DIDN’T PUT YOU IN THAT OFFICE TO COME AND HUMILIATE THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY… REMEMBER GOD NO SLEEP!!”

The statements have sparked fresh public debate about the conduct of state institutions in high-profile operations and the blurred lines between celebrity, politics, and accountability in Ghana.

Meanwhile, EOCO has confirmed that Shatta Wale, along with a former senior official from the National Signal Bureau (NSB), have been identified as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation. Both individuals are expected to be invited for questioning in the coming weeks.

The Lamborghini remains in EOCO’s custody while the agency awaits a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request from U.S. authorities for its repatriation, which will be used toward Amuah’s court-ordered restitution.
