Dormaahene Leads Anti-Galamsey Operation; Three Arrested, Seven Machines Seized

The Ghana Voice 16-09-2025

The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has led a joint operation with the Dormaa Anti-Galamsey Task Force and chiefs from the Dormaa Traditional Council to clamp down on illegal mining activities in parts of his jurisdiction.

The exercise, which took place on Monday, September 15, covered communities including Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi.

During the swoop, three individuals were arrested while seven water pumping machines used in the illicit operations were seized. The suspects and confiscated equipment have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further action.

Addressing the media after the operation, the Dormaahene issued a strong warning to individuals engaging in illegal mining on Dormaa stool lands. He stressed that the traditional authority would not relent in its fight to protect water bodies, lands, and the environment from the destructive effects of galamsey.

“Anyone involved in illegal mining on Dormaa lands should put an immediate stop to it. If you are caught, you will face the full consequences,” he cautioned.

The Paramount Chief further called on the youth to seek lawful and sustainable means of livelihood rather than destroying the environment for short-term gains.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Dormaa Traditional Council to safeguard the area’s natural resources and complement national initiatives against illegal mining.
