AYAWASO EAST SHOWDOWN! NDC Awaits Explosive Probe Report as Baba Jamal’s Victory Hangs in the Balance

Political tension within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reached fever pitch as the party’s three-member investigative committee probing alleged vote buying in the controversial Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries is expected to present its much-anticipated report today.

The committee, chaired by veteran party stalwart Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini and legal practitioner Emefa Fuga as members, was constituted following widespread claims of inducement during the hotly contested primaries held earlier this month.

The Committee initially included the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga and was replaced by Hon. Inusah Fuseini over conflict of interest issues, following his petition to the NDC leadership on behalf 16 members of the Majority caucus who have called for entire annulment of the primaries. 

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretariat and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the committee was mandated to conduct a thorough probe into the allegations and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary.

The committee was given up to Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to submit its findings to the party’s national leadership.

As the clock ticks towards the release of the report, anxiety and political suspense have gripped the Ayawaso East political landscape, with party supporters and political watchers eagerly waiting to see whether the primaries will stand or be annulled.

At the centre of the storm is Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, who emerged winner of the fiercely contested race but has since been battling allegations of vote buying,claims he has strongly denied. His camp is reportedly on edge as speculation grows over possible sanctions that could alter the outcome of the primaries and potentially reshape the party’s strategy ahead of the crucial March 3, 2026 by-election.

Pressure is also mounting from within the party’s parliamentary ranks. The NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament has openly called for the cancellation of the entire primary process and the disqualification of any candidate found culpable in electoral malpractice.

Insiders within the party suggest that the committee’s recommendations could trigger major political repercussions, including a possible re-run of the primaries or disciplinary action against key figures.

Supporters of various aspirants have intensified behind-the-scenes lobbying, while grassroots members in the constituency remain deeply divided over the fate of the disputed election.
