The gathering, attended by all paramountcies and clans within Asanteman, was convened to fulfill the traditional obligation of informing the kingdom of the Queen Mother’s demise.

The one-week observance for the late Queen Mother has been scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace. The event is expected to draw dignitaries, chiefs, and mourners from across the country and the diaspora.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III succeeded Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II her mother, who passed away in 2016. That same year, the Asantehene commissioned a renovated ceremonial park named in honour of the late Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II. Situated opposite the Manhyia Museum, the park—featuring a lush artificial turf—has since hosted numerous royal and traditional ceremonies.
The passing of the Asantehemaa has plunged Asanteman into a period of mourning, with black-and-red drapings already adorning parts of the palace and surrounding streets. Preparations are underway to honour her life, legacy, and decades of service to the Ashanti Kingdom.
