“POWER, POLITICS & PILFERED POWER LINES: The Shadowy ECG Cable Syndicate Rocking Ghana”

The Ghana Voice 25-03-2026

PART ONE: THE SILENT CHINESE GIANT AT THE CENTRE OF A NATIONAL SCANDAL

A dangerous and highly organised web of cable theft, industrial-scale smelting, and alleged political protection is beginning to unravel—and at the heart of it lies a powerful Chinese linked industrial empire operating quietly within Ghana’s economic corridors.

In less than a year, two major security crackdowns, one in March 2025 and another in March 2026—have exposed what investigators describe as a sophisticated syndicate targeting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Yet, despite the scale of the operations and the high-profile arrests, one critical detail remains conspicuously absent: the identity of the company whose premises have repeatedly been linked to the stolen materials.

RAIDS, ARRESTS… AND A PATTERN

On March 4, 2026, a joint operation led by the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Energy stormed an industrial site in Kpone, Tema.

What they found was staggering.

Over 70 workers busily dismantling ECG cables.

More than 100 drums filled with suspected stolen cables.

And 10 suspects arrested, including eight foreign nationals believed to be in managerial roles.

According to the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the operation uncovered a “structured syndicate”—not a random act of theft, but a coordinated, long-running enterprise.

But this was not the first time.

FLASHBACK: THE CONTAINER SCANDAL

Nearly a year earlier, on March 27, 2025, National Security operatives executed another intelligence-led raid—this time linked to the infamous ECG container disappearance scandal.

The findings were equally explosive:

13 suspects arrested, including foreign nationals

40 missing ECG containers recovered

Evidence of industrial-scale smelting of electrical cables into export-ready aluminum bars

The location? Another industrial facility in Kpone.

The pattern? Impossible to ignore.

THE UNANSWERED QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FACILITY?

In both cases, authorities confirmed that:

The cables and materials recovered belonged to ECG

The operations were conducted on the premises of a specific industrial company

The scale indicated long-term, organised activity

Yet, in all official communications, one thing remains curiously omitted—the name of the company.

Why?

THE POWER BEHIND THE POWER

Multiple sources within security and industry circles point to a well-established foreign-owned conglomerate, with vast interests spanning:

Oil and gas

Steel manufacturing

Construction

Heavy industrial processing

Even more intriguing—and troubling—are claims that the Chairman of this group maintains deep connections within the highest levels of political and economic power in Ghana.

Could this explain the silence?

A STRATEGY OF SILENCE?

Insiders suggest the company at the centre of the storm has adopted a deliberate “low visibility” strategy, avoiding public statements, refusing media engagement, and relying on influence to keep its name out of headlines.

Meanwhile:

Security agencies maintain that suspects remain innocent until proven guilty

Investigations continue “behind the scenes”

The public is left with more questions than answers

THE WHISTLEBLOWER TWIST

In a dramatic turn, sources reveal that a military officer who initially exposed the operation has since allegedly become closely associated with the very company under investigation, reportedly serving as a bodyguard or aide to the group’s chairman.

A coincidence? Or a sign of deeper infiltration?

NATIONAL ASSETS UNDER SIEGE

This is not just a theft story—it is a national security concern.

ECG infrastructure is critical to Ghana’s power supply. The scale of theft uncovered suggests:

Systemic breaches

Possible insider collaboration

A lucrative export pipeline for stolen national assets

And perhaps most worrying of all—a network that may be shielded by influence and silence.

COMING UP IN PART TWO…

We go beyond whispers and speculation.

-We name the company at the centre of the scandal

-We uncover its business footprint in Ghana

-We expose the links, networks, and power connections keeping it hidden

-And we track the money trail behind Ghana’s stolen power infrastructure

Stay with us. The silence is about to be broken.
