Youthful Electorate Strengthens NDC Base as NPP Faces Generational Rebuilding – Global Info Analytics Poll Reveals

A new voter demographic analysis by Global Info Analytics has revealed a widening generational contrast between Ghana’s governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), following the NPP’s heavy defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The December 2025 poll indicates that the NDC, led by President John Dramani Mahama, currently enjoys stronger support among younger voters, while the NPP’s support base appears to be relatively older.

According to the survey, 34 percent of NPP supporters are aged above 45 years, compared to 25 percent of NDC supporters in the same age bracket. On the other hand, younger voters form a larger proportion of the NDC’s support base, with 75 percent of its supporters below 44 years. The NPP trails slightly in this category, with 66 percent of its supporters falling within the same age group.

The poll further highlights Ghana’s broader voter demographic trend, showing that approximately 78 percent of the country’s electorate is below the age of 44, reinforcing the growing political influence of younger voters in national elections.

Advantage for Governing NDC

For the ruling NDC, the data suggests a significant strategic advantage, particularly in terms of long-term political sustainability. With Ghana’s voter population largely dominated by young people, the party’s stronger appeal among youth positions it favourably to consolidate its electoral dominance if it successfully delivers on governance expectations.

Political analysts note that youthful voters are typically influenced by economic opportunities, job creation, education accessibility, entrepreneurship support, and digital economy participation. The Mahama administration’s policy performance in these areas could therefore play a critical role in maintaining and expanding this demographic support.

However, observers also caution that youth voters are often politically dynamic and less rigid in party loyalty, meaning governance performance will remain crucial in retaining this support base.

Rebuilding Challenge for the NPP

For the opposition NPP, the poll presents both a structural strength and a strategic warning. The party’s relatively stronger support among older voters may provide it with a stable and loyal electoral base, as mature voters traditionally demonstrate higher turnout and stronger party affiliation.

Nevertheless, the data signals a potential long-term vulnerability for the party. With a smaller share of youthful supporters, the NPP faces the challenge of rebuilding its political brand and reconnecting with younger voters, particularly after its 2024 electoral defeat.

Political strategists suggest that the party may need to reposition its policy messaging to focus more aggressively on youth employment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and cost-of-living concerns if it intends to regain national electoral competitiveness.
