Mahama Government Lauded for Economic Gains, Transparency in First Six Months
The Ghana Voice 21-06-2025As Ghana marks the sixth month of President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power, members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are celebrating what they describe as a shining example of progressive governance, economic competence, and clean leadership.
In a statement issued by Kwasi Kokoo, a member of the Jaman South NDC Communication Team, the party drew a sharp contrast between the performance of the Mahama-led administration in 2025 and that of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government in its early days in 2017.
Economic Turnaround and Fiscal Gains
Highlighting a series of early successes, the statement touted the Mahama administration’s impressive economic performance, citing record revenues in the first quarter of 2025 and the recovery of over GH¢21 billion in previously mismanaged or lost state funds. International financial rating agency Fitch recently upgraded Ghana’s outlook to B-minus stable, a development the NDC views as a vote of confidence in Mahama's economic stewardship.
“Unlike the economic turmoil and ballooning debt Ghanaians endured during the early days of Nana Addo’s tenure, President Mahama has ushered in a renewed sense of fiscal discipline and optimism,” the statement read.
Transparency Over Scandal
The NDC communication team praised the current government’s clean governance record, noting that no major scandals have tainted Mahama’s first six months in office. This, they argue, stands in contrast to what they call “a scandal-ridden start” to Nana Addo’s first term, referencing controversies such as the 2017 inauguration day plagiarism incident, bribery allegations involving former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, and the contaminated fuel saga at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST).
“This speaks volumes about the NDC's commitment to integrity and transparency in public office,” Kwasi K?k?? stated.
Relief at the Pump and on the Road
Fuel prices have also seen a significant drop under the current administration, with petrol now selling at approximately GH¢10.99 per liter. In addition, the Mahama government has implemented a 15% reduction in public transport fares, moves that the party says have provided much-needed relief to ordinary Ghanaians grappling with the cost of living.
“Unlike the past administration, which failed to ease fuel burdens, this government is proving that it listens and responds to the needs of the people,” the statement noted.
Inflation Control and Producer Stability
The statement further pointed to the latest economic data, which shows a reduction in producer price inflation to 10.25% in May 2025. The party credits this improvement to sound economic policy and effective market regulation under the Mahama administration.
Education Expansion
On education, the NDC communication team celebrated President Mahama’s decision to expand the Free Senior High School (SHS) program to include 25 private schools — a step that broadens access to quality education. They argue that this proactive policy direction contrasts sharply with what they describe as the sluggish start of the Free SHS program under the previous government.
Looking Ahead
In summing up the administration’s performance, the statement emphasized that President Mahama’s government is already delivering results in areas where previous administrations stumbled.
“The NDC is raising the bar for governance in this country,” Kwasi Kokoo asserted. “From economic management to education and social relief, this administration is proving that Ghana’s future can indeed be brighter.”
The Jaman South NDC says it is confident that the coming months will bring even greater strides toward national prosperity and inclusive development.
