From DKM Scandal to NPP’s Hopeful: Embattled CEO Eyes Nandom Seat

From DKM Scandal to NPP’s Hopeful: Embattled CEO Eyes Nandom Seat

The Ghana Voice 13-08-2025

In a dramatic political twist, Dr. Martin Kuudenign Delle, the embattled CEO of the defunct DKM Diamond Microfinance — whose collapse in 2015 left thousands of customers across the Brong Ahafo Region devastated — has declared his intention to contest the Nandom Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr. Delle, who was remanded into prison custody in 2015 over his inability to meet bail conditions in multiple cases linked to unpaid customer investments, became a controversial political figure in the run-up to the 2016 elections when the then-opposition NPP accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being financed by his microfinance empire.

Despite strong denials from the NDC, the rumours persisted and became a major campaign talking point until the NDC lost power to the NPP. Years later, the political narrative flipped when Dr. Delle resurfaced — this time seen actively engaging in NPP campaign activities in Nandom, including appearing alongside then–Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Nandom Traditional Palace.

The NPP at the time denied he was part of their campaign machinery, insisting his presence was purely ceremonial due to his royal connections with the Paramount Chief of Nandom, Naa Professor. Edmund Delle, founder of Rabito Clinic and a former National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Now, Dr. Delle has moved from the fringes of political speculation to the heart of the contest, boldly launching his bid to unseat the incumbent NDC MP in Nandom in the 2028 polls.

His campaign, couched as “A Genuine Call to Serve the People,” touts his record as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and local developer — highlighting projects like the Dr. Martin Kuudenign Delle Foundation, a shea butter factory at Konyugangn, road improvements, and job creation initiatives in Nandom.

But his re-entry into public life is bound to reignite fierce debate, as political opponents prepare to revisit the unresolved controversies of the DKM saga — a scandal that former President John Mahama in 2024 alleged was weaponised by the NPP in 2016, only for the “real owner” to later emerge as an NPP supporter.

With this announcement, Nandom’s political stage is set for a heated, high-stakes battle — one that will test whether Dr. Delle’s past remains an unshakable shadow or a chapter he can convincingly turn.
