“I Used Myself and My Father”: Ayariga Fumbles PhD Claims in Bola Ray Interview

APC Leader’s Confusing Responses Renew Doubts About His Academic Credentials Amid GTEC Sanction

Confusion on Live TV

Founder and flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has once again drawn public scrutiny after struggling to defend his supposed PhD in an interview with celebrated broadcaster Bola Ray.

Despite a formal directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) barring him from using the title “Dr.” due to unverifiable academic records, Ayariga doubled down on his claims—only to deliver a disjointed explanation that left many viewers stunned.

Multiple Subjects, No Clarity

During the interview, Ayariga first claimed he earned a PhD in Business Administration. When pressed to reveal his thesis topic, he responded:

“I did economics, mathematics, and accounting.”

Moments later, however, he pivoted to say:

“My thesis was on political tolerance.”

His explanation became even more unusual when asked about the nature of his research. Ayariga claimed he “used himself and his father” as the basis for his study—then launched into a historical account of how politics supposedly began in northern Ghana and Africa.

When Bola Ray sought academic depth—such as his conceptual model or research framework—Ayariga vaguely mentioned globalization, without clearly linking it to his thesis. Asked again to name the thesis topic, he said:

“That’s what I’m telling you, I did political science... tolerance.”

GTEC Directive Ignored

This interview comes weeks after GTEC issued a formal notice instructing Mr. Ayariga to cease using the title “Dr.”

According to GTEC, investigations have found no record of a verifiable PhD from any recognized university or awarding body linked to Ayariga. Yet, the APC leader remains defiant, continuing to use the title in public and party communications.

Social Media Reacts

Ghanaians have taken to social media platforms to express disbelief and humour. Clips from the interview are now circulating widely, with excerpts turning into viral memes and satire.
