Armed Forces Council Withdraws Unauthorized Military Protection for Civilians in Disciplinary Reset
The Ghana Voice 15-07-2025In a decisive move to uphold discipline, transparency, and accountability within the Ghana Armed Forces, the Armed Forces Council has announced the immediate withdrawal of military protection for civilians who are not legally entitled to such services.
The directive, which forms part of the Defense Ministry’s broader #Reset agenda, was disclosed by the Minister for Defense, Dr. Omane Boamah, in a facebook post. The initiative aims to end the misuse of military personnel for personal security by individuals including former ministers, public officials, businessmen, and other civilians.
“As part of our #Reset agenda to restore discipline and accountability, we’ve withdrawn military protection for civilians (including public officials, former ministers, businessmen and women, among others) who are not entitled to it,†the post read.
According to Dr. Boamah, the abuse of military personnel for private and non-official purposes undermines the integrity and professional neutrality of the armed forces. He warned that any military personnel found providing unauthorized guard duties or engaged in duties outside their lawful assignments would face strict disciplinary measures.
“This decision aims to stop the misuse of military personnel for personal gain. Therefore, military personnel found providing unauthorized guard duties or other unapproved services will face far-reaching consequences,†he stressed.
The Defense Minister emphasized that the move reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the military remains a disciplined, professional, and apolitical institution.
“We're committed to transparency and accountability. Let’s build a more responsible and just society together,†Dr. Boamah concluded.
The announcement has drawn public interest, with many Ghanaians commending the ministry's resolve to reestablish discipline and proper order in the deployment of military personnel. Stakeholders across security and governance sectors are expected to follow up with policy recommendations and compliance monitoring mechanisms.
